Wellness Compliance Institute
Who We Are
Wellness Compliance Institute, Inc. (WCI) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that started in 2015 to help the wellness industry achieve compliance with the various federal laws that impact wellness programming. WCI’s founder, Barbara J. Zabawa, JD, MPH, recognized a need for compliance services and certification after attending numerous workplace wellness program events and talking to a wide range of stakeholders in workplace wellness program design. With the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC) paying particular attention to workplace wellness program compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), the need for compliance services appeared even more dire. As wellness programs continue to offer financial incentives for wellness participation and to collect individual health information through health assessments, biometric screens and wellness devices, it will be critical that the program designers and administrators have confidence in that the program complies with the law. WCI’s purpose is to serve as that full-service compliance resource.
WCI is uniquely positioned to offer wellness compliance education and resources for those who work in the workplace wellness industry. No other organization focuses its efforts on improving workplace wellness compliance and conduct, which leads to program effectiveness.
